Castello di Monsanto's " Il Poggio" 2020 represents the absolute pinnacle of Sangiovese in the heart of Chianti Classico. Produced from a single vineyard of the same name, this cru expresses itself with intensity and finesse: in the glass, it appears a deep ruby with subtle garnet highlights, promising a long and refined evolution. On the nose, notes of violet, brandied cherries, ripe plums, sweet spices, and moist earth unfold, accompanied by an elegant mineral hint of marl and undergrowth. On the palate, it displays a full yet balanced structure: the tannins are noble and well-polished, the vibrant acidity lends momentum, and the finish is persistent, juicy, and savory, leaving a memorable impression. A wine designed for aging and to offer a splendid experience after years in the bottle: a true collector's item.

Conventional Production Method . The grapes are a blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo & Colorino, sourced exclusively from the “Il Poggio” vineyard, located on galestro soils at an altitude of 280-320 m in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle. The harvest is manual, with rigorous selection of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel/conical tanks at a controlled temperature for approximately 20-22 days. Aged in French oak barriques (some new) for approximately 18 months, followed by further aging in the bottle.

Pairings: Perfect with fine Tuscan dishes, perfectly complementing the wine's high quality: roast red meats, sliced Fassona beef, stewed wild boar, roast lamb, game, and mature cheeses. Also ideal for meditative moments or leisurely tastings, perhaps accompanied by a cigar or a moment of contemplation.
