The 932 Carignano del Sulcis DOC Superiore 2021 from Cantina di Calasetta is a wine that pays homage to the history of the cooperative, founded in 1932, and to the work of an entire community dedicated to the enhancement of Carignano. This intense ruby red releases a deep and complex bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, balsamic herbs and sweet spices, with a hint of tobacco and cocoa from the wood aging. On the palate it is warm, full-bodied and well-structured, with soft tannins, a juicy acidity and a long and persistent finish that recalls notes of ripe fruit and minerality. Produced from old ungrafted vines on sandy soils, the balanced and rich 2021 vintage makes this wine an elegant expression of Sulcis, ideal for special occasions and with aging potential until 2035.

 Production Method The Carignano grapes come from Latin bush vineyards over 50 years old, grown ungrafted (without American rootstock) on sandy soils on the island of Sant'Antioco, in a sub-hilly position, with a density of 6,000 vines/ha and a yield of 30 quintals/ha. The sub-arid climate, with mild winters and sunny, breezy summers, favors fat and savory wines. Manual harvest at perfect ripeness (end of September), followed by destemming, pressing and fermentation in steel at 28 °C for about 15 days, with maceration on the skins for two weeks. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in cement tanks to soften the acidity and increase its complexity. Aged for 18 months in first-passage French oak barriques, followed by further refinement in the bottle for about 6 months before being released for sale. Production limited to approximately 1,600 bottles.
