Luigi Pira’s Barolo Serralunga DOCG 2021 is a classic expression of the Serralunga d’Alba terroir, a wine that combines the area’s typical tannic structure with refined elegance. This garnet red with orange highlights releases a complex bouquet of red cherry, dried rose, leather, hay, earth and fine spices, with a hint of humus that recalls the undergrowth. Aged for 24 months in large barrels, it offers a balanced and harmonious palate, with well-present but smooth tannins, a vibrant freshness and a lingering finish of fruit and minerality. The fresh and balanced 2021 vintage gives this Barolo early drinkability and aging potential until 2040, making it an ideal companion for special occasions or for a collector’s cellar.
Production Method The Nebbiolo grapes come from a blend of three vineyards in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba (Margheria, Marenca and Vigna Rionda), on clayey-calcareous soils with “Formazioni di Lequio”, at about 320 meters above sea level. Manual harvest in October, fermentation in horizontal fermenters at a controlled temperature (28-30 °C) for 12-15 days, with maceration on the skins for 15-18 days. Traditional refinement for 24 months in large 25 hl Slavonian oak barrels, followed by 6 months in the bottle. Production of about 10,000 bottles.
Pairings: Braised beef in Barolo, stewed game (e.g. roe deer), mature cheeses, truffle risotto.
