Luigi Pira's Barolo Marenca DOCG 2021 is an iconic cru, a symbol of the winery, which comes from a 2-hectare vineyard located in a steep valley in Serralunga d'Alba. This intense garnet red releases a complex and fresh bouquet of berries, ripe cherry, vanilla, chocolate and aromatic herbs, with a hint of oriental spices. Aged for 24 months in wood, it offers a vigorous and structured palate, with energetic tannins softened by the skillful use of wood, a richness of extracts and a long and intriguing finish, which suggests extraordinary longevity. The 2021 vintage, balanced and promising, makes this Barolo a powerful and deep wine, perfect for lovers of great Piedmontese reds and with aging potential until 2045.
Production Method The Nebbiolo grapes come from the Marenca cru, a 2-hectare vineyard in a steep valley with a western exposure, on clay-limestone soils, at 300-350 meters above sea level. Manual harvest in October, fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (28-30 °C) for 18-20 days, with maceration on the skins to extract structure and complexity. Aged for 24 months, with the first year in 500-liter French oak tonneaux (20% new) and the second year in large 25 hl Slavonian oak barrels, followed by 12 months in the bottle. Production of approximately 5,000 bottles.
Pairings: Beef fillet with pepper, game (e.g. venison), mature cheeses, white truffle-based dishes.
