Montevertine's Le Pergole Torte 2017, a timeless icon, is born in the heart of Radda in Chianti, from vines rooted in alberese (limestone marl) soils at 425 metres above sea level. This pure Sangiovese, skilfully aged for 24 months in Slavonian oak casks and Allier barriques, is a deep ruby red with a seductive bouquet of violets, wild blackberries and sweet spices, caressed by hints of vanilla. On the palate it unfolds with velvety intensity, silky tannins and a freshness that promises remarkable development in the years to come. Ideal with succulent red meats or fine game, it is a wine that speaks of tradition and refinement, perfect for celebrating unforgettable moments or enriching a top-tier cellar. 2017 was one of the hottest and driest years in Tuscany in recent decades. After a changeable winter, rainfall was very scarce from May onwards. Fortunately, some rain in early September helped the grapes finish ripening without excess. Overall, the result for Sangiovese was a vintage of high concentration, with ripe tannins but also a certain opulence of fruit due to the heat. In many areas there was a risk of drying tannins or high alcohol, but great producers such as Montevertine managed the harvest and winemaking superbly. First made with the 1977 vintage, Le Pergole Torte was the first pure Sangiovese vinified in the Radda in Chianti area. The grapes come from Montevertine's historic vineyards, planted between 1968 and 1999.

Production method: Conventional. Spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks, unfiltered.

Food pairings: Roast red meats, game, aged cheeses.
