Quintarelli 's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2018 is a masterpiece of patience and elegance. Hailing from the classic Valpolicella region, the wine displays a deep garnet color with ruby highlights. On the nose, it unleashes a sumptuous bouquet: cherries in brandy, dried plums, mulberries, balsamic herbs, sweet spices, licorice, and a touch of tobacco and leather that emerges with aging. On the palate, it is rich and full, with smooth tannins, well-balanced acidity, and a length that invites another sip. The many years of aging give it a structure that will stand the test of time, making it perfect for special occasions and cellaring.
Conventional Production Method . The grapes are a complex blend: according to reliable sources, it is approximately 55% Corvina/Corvinone, 30% Rondinella, Cabernet Sauvignon + Nebbiolo, Croatina, and 15% Sangiovese. Harvest is manual, with careful selection of the bunches. Approximately half of the grapes are dried in ventilated areas until the end of January, resulting in water loss and sugar concentration.
This is followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts, maceration lasting approximately 45 days, and then a refinement period of approximately 7 years in large Slavonian oak barrels.
Pairings: It pairs magnificently with braised beef, game, rich roasts, rich aged cheeses, and complex Italian dishes. It's also excellent as a meditation wine, perhaps after dinner with a good cigar or in good company.
