Poggio alle Nane is the most important wine of Le Mortelle, the Antinori family's estate in the Maremma, near Castiglione della Pescaia. A blend based on Cabernet Franc with Cabernet Sauvignon and a small proportion of Carmenère. Deep ruby, it has aromas of cherry and blackcurrant with black pepper, cloves and liquorice. The palate is rich and enveloping, with soft tannins and a finish of roasted coffee and dark chocolate.
Production method: Selected bunches, hand-picked into small crates, with a second selection on the sorting table. Fermented in stainless steel with about 20 days of maceration; malolactic fermentation and 16 months of ageing in French oak barriques.
Food pairings: Rich Tuscan pasta dishes, roast red meats, wild boar, aged cheeses.
