Antinori's Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 2021 is a refined and powerful interpretation of Sangiovese, a wine that reflects the soul of the estate of the same name, a few kilometres from Montalcino. The 2021 vintage is considered phenomenal: despite a dry start and some spring frosts that reduced yields, the quality is outstanding, producing fresh yet structured wines with ripe tannins. From vineyards on clay and limestone soils at 130–200 metres above sea level, this deep ruby red with garnet highlights releases a complex bouquet of ripe cherry, violet, bitter cocoa and Mediterranean herbs such as oregano and marjoram. Aged for 24 months in large oak casks, it stands out for a full, harmonious palate, with well-integrated tannins, vibrant freshness and a long, persistent finish. A Brunello that combines elegance and structure, ideal for lovers of great Tuscan wines and set to evolve magnificently over the coming years.
Production method: Conventional. Fermented in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature (28 °C) for 15–20 days with frequent pump-overs, with about 15 days of maceration on the skins; malolactic fermentation in steel. Matured 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks (30–80 hl), then at least 12 months in bottle.
Food pairings: Game, grilled red meats, aged cheeses.
